Dive into the dazzling depths and coral reefs of the Australian ocean with our Blue Patina, Copper Wall Clock.

How is it made?

Each and every clock we make is cut, shaped, sanded and patinated with care in our home studio in Perth, Western Australia.

Our blue patina is achieved using chemical manipulation, which forces the copper to develop a layer of colourful oxidation to protect itself, also known as patination.

To preserve and protect the colourful patination, we apply a clear lacquer that will prevent the clock from further oxidation (ageing).

We then affix a silent, quartz, clock mechanism and test your clock over a 24 hour period before it is wrapped up and shipped to your home.

Products & Process

What is Patination?
Patination is the process of changing the appearance of metal - particularly, copper, brass or bronze. A patina develops on these metals as a layer of protection from corrosion.

While it usually refers to a chemical process, a patina can also mean any aging process that causes natural discoloration or fading, including extreme temperature changes.

As you may know, copper metal is usually a reddish/brown colour, bronze is almost identical and brass is a gleaming gold.

Changes to these colours can be achieved by atmospheric oxidation; where the metal is exposed to the elements to promote ageing.

A real-life example of this can be seen on the Statue of Liberty which was originally a reddish/brown colour due to being primarily copper. Through many years of exposure to salt water, wind, rain, snow, temperature changes and other atmospheric conditions the Statue of Liberty is now mostly green, also known as Verdigris.

In a clean, natural environment, it can take up to 30 years to achieve the iconic green "verdigris" patina that copper is known for. Similar results can be achieved through forced/controlled patination in as little as a few days, with deeper and more colourful patinas taking longer.

Forced patination, is a process where one purposefully aims to change the appearance of a metal. Natural products or chemicals are applied to the metals in a controlled environment. Alternatively, we may expose the metal to extreme temperature changes to create a patina. Both of these methods are forced which speeds up the patination process.

These forced methods produce the stunning products and colours that you all see and love.

Had an older model. This one for same price is smaller, cheaper and gold on click itself is too datk

Hi Marilyn

We are unable to find any previous orders from yourself, or anyone at your listed delivery address so we are unsure what older model you are refering to. We've sent you an email to query this as well as your other concerns.

Updated 31st January 2025
Thanks for taking the time to respond to our queries regarding this review. After chatting with you via email, we both concluded that the older clock you currently have, was purchased from a different company in a different country and as such, looks different to ours. We're glad we could put your mind at ease knowing that our products are made to a higher grade of copper with a more durable sealant than that of what you had previously purchased from elsewhere, we hope it remains a focal point in your home for many years to come.

Let down by the Movement

Beautiful finish on the face and hands, let down by the cheap plastic battery movement. Requested names and anniversary date to be engraved on the order form but not completed.

Hi Nathan,

Thank you for your feedback. Regarding the engraving, we do not offer engraving on this product as it has a full patina; there would be nowhere for the engraving to be visible. We have also looked at your order and can not see anywhere that engraving was requested, do you remember who you spoke to regarding this?

As for the movement, we're sorry to hear that you feel this is cheap as we can assure you we only use high quality quartz movements. The casing is plastic as there are no alternatives on the market for a fully sealed casing of any other material.

Please do not feel we are trying to argue any points here, we're just trying our best to explain our process and products. We try our best to ensure all of our customers have a 5 star experience, please let us know if there is anything we can do to help further.
